Q&A: Grey's Anatomy Season 8, Derek getting shot?!?!?!?

I love Grey’s but don’t get to watch it religiously and only see reruns here and there, but….I was just watching lifetime and they left me hanging with the season finale of season 8 where Derek gets shot! Can anybody catch me up?
